Artist in Residency

Debbie Ford

Debbie Brod: Feb 2009-April 2009
InsideOut Studio was awarded a grant from the Ohio Arts Council for a residency project. Debbie Brod was the chosen artist for the residency. She taught the artists about color, composition, texture, and the installation process. Debbie also taught the artists about silk and dyeing silk, the types of dyes that are needed, the preparation before dyeing and the finishing process to set the dye. Artists were engaged in each project and were extremely energized by working on a group project. Part of this residency also included community art nights. Community members were invited to paint and become a part of the final installation.

Art Realization Technologies (A.R.T.)

Training Opportunity: June 17-18, 2009
Tim Lefens, founder and Executive Director of Art Realization Technologies (A.R.T.) began this program almost 20 years after being introduced to a group of disabled students, none of whom could walk, only one who could talk and all lacked the use of their hands. As an abstract painter facing the gradual loss of his own eyesight, Lefens had come to fully understand the power of art and was determined to enable the students to paint, despite their physical limitations. Lefens has chosen InsideOut Studio, through a grant with the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, as one of ten sites in the United States, to receive training on his innovative technique.

Suzanne Fischer

Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council

InsideOut Studio was awarded a grant through the ODDC to develop marketing materials, portfolios, biographies and procure venues for exhibits.

The artist chosen for this project is Suzanne Fisher. Suzanne is an established artist and has taught at local universities and participated in artist in residency projects with several local schools.

In addition to the portfolio development, Suzanne has supported the studio through her mosaic expertise. She has trained staff to understand the process of mosaic design and how to complete the mosaic with cementing and grouting the finished project.

Suzanne has established contacts throughout the business and artistic communities. Due to these contacts there have been exhibits at the following locations: Pendleton Art Studio in conjunction with Jolie Studios, Starbucks in Hyde Park, and the Fitton Center for Creative Arts.
