Alicia Ann Jones creates drawings and paintings that start out with detailed line drawings. She says her skill at painting and drawing came from her artistic father, who was also a preacher. She works from magazine illustrations and photos and other images that people bring to her. She works on any and all surfaces, including wood panels, large canvases, and any sort of paper. She has several bodies of work, including people, flowers, still life’s and landscapes. She combines elements from the photographic sources with elements from her imagination in her highly original and compelling works of art.
Her figurative paintings and drawings include images of friends and family, fictitious and real figures from previous eras, historical and contemporary politicians, movie stars, and entertainers. A particular favorite and recurring theme in both her figurative and floral art is Elvis. Elvis’s name, initials and/or image shows up on sunflower petals, in paintings of people, and in still life paintings. As far as she is concerned, Elvis is king.
In Alicia’s floral pieces, sunflowers, lilies and poppies are her main motifs. The exact same composition will be repeated on several canvases, but each will be painted in a different manner. Colors will vary, as will backgrounds. Other materials such as glitter may be applied to add texture and variety
